Thrombosis and Inflammation
Ischemic stroke is a leading cause of long-term disability and a significant contributor to global mortality. Emerging evidence highlights the critical role of immune dysregulation and chronic inflammation in promoting thrombosis and exacerbating stroke outcomes. Conditions such as aging, infections, and cancer can trigger maladaptive immune responses that initiate thrombo-inflammatory cascades.
Our research focuses on translational approaches to elucidate immune-mediated mechanisms driving stroke pathology in the context of frailty-associated conditions. Specifically, we investigate how these states alter immune-pathophysiological processes and contribute to cerebrovascular dysfunction and thrombotic risk. Central to our studies are myeloid immune cells, which respond to peripheral danger signals and orchestrate pathological inflammation, ultimately facilitating thrombosis within the brain and vasculature.
To address these questions, we integrate high-dimensional immune profiling of stroke patients with experimental stroke models and tailored in vitro systems. Leveraging single-cell transcriptomics, proteomics, and functional assays, we aim to unravel the immune pathways that underlie thrombus formation and resistance to its resolution.
By mapping the molecular networks and immune cell dynamics linking inflammation to thrombosis, our goal is to advance toward precision medicine strategies for patients with elevated thrombo-inflammatory risk.
